“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” ~ Seneca

This photo involved some luck. I went down to the lake near my house prepared to photograph the sun setting.  While I was waiting this Anna’s Hummingbird flew close enough for me to photograph with my wide angle lens. When I first spotted the bird, only 3 feet away, my camera was set up for a sunset photo with a shutter speed to slow to do justice to a bird that flaps it wings 75 times per second when hovering.

Previous preparation allowed me to change to a preset that I had set up earlier, allowing me to “freeze” the wings of the hummingbird using a shutter speed of 1/2,000 of a second.
