It is interesting where you find inspiration. Ever told yourself, or even worse, been told “You’re not good enough to do that!” this story is for you.
ApologetiX is a parody band. In addition to putting on a great show, they pack a powerful message of a life transformed.
There newsletter arrived in my email this morning. J. Jackson, lead singer and lyricist for ApologetiX, told of their beginning.
Eighteen years ago this Friday, ApologetiX took the stage for the very first time in Irwin PA. We had three guitar players (including me), no bass player, and our drummer couldn’t make it. But God made up for the lack of personnel on stage by filling the audience. And they actually liked us!
A month earlier, we had no band name. We were just some guys who met once a week to play music, read the Bible, pray, and eat. A friend named Dan Brazen showed me an article about a local Christian coffee house and suggested we play there. “We’re not good enough,” I said. “Who is?” he replied.
So that Friday Andy Sparks (one of our lead guitarists) and I drove 30 miles to the Paradise Club and gave the manager a homemade demo tape. And the rest is history … 18 years of it so far. This Friday we’ll fly 1840 miles from Pittsburgh to Salt Lake City for our 1226th concert.
So the next time you think you’re not good enough to do something God has put on your heart, just remember: “Who is?” As Jesus once told a rich young ruler, “No one is good—except God alone.” But as He also said to His disciples afterward, “with God all things are possible.”
So, what is your life calling and what are you waiting for? If you wait until you think you are good enough, you could be waiting for a long time and where is the satisfaction in that?
